Castle at the Crossroads

The ancient city of Prague was a crossroads for trade by the Ninth Century. The early rulers chose a promontory as the site for their castle overlooking their burgeoning domaine spreading across the Vltava River.

The building of St. Vitus church began within the castle complex as early as the Eleventh Century. The nobility who served the kings and later the rulers of the Holy Roman Empire lived in the Lessor Town directly below the castle complex.

The present-day offices of the President of the Czech Republic, playwright and author, Vaclav Havel, are located within the heart of this castle.
